The double scale divided into sectors, green to starboard and red to port, allows you to read your true course starboard-tack and port-tack from the normal position of the helmsman when rappelling. It is no longer necessary to add 45° to the heading value read. The red and green memory arrows prompt you to tack when the value decreases starboard-tack and when it increases port-tack. The upper scale allows you to read the heading downwind or control the position of the starting line.

If the starboard tack graduation is 2, the port tack graduation must be 2. Thus, you only need to remember the number 2. This is an important advantage in triangular courses to sail at a puff rather than following a compass course .
